Vikidia as a universal multilingual online encyclopedia for children [“Vikidia” – універсальна багатомовна онлайн-енциклопедія для дітей]

The article informs the community of Ukraine about the children’s universal multilingual online encyclopedia titled Vikidia and draw attention to the fact that it lacks a Ukrainian-language section. We emphasize the Ukrainian children’s audience does not yet have a high-quality digital encyclopedia and, obviously, Vikidia could fill this gap. At the same time, it is important that Ukrainian children’s encyclopedias or the Ukrainian-language segments of international projects such as Vikidia provide contents aimed specifically at Ukrainian children (currently, the vast majority of published in Ukraine children’s encyclopedias is a kind of translated literature). [Стаття інформує українську спільноту про дитячу універсальну багатомовну онлайн-енциклопедію “Vikidia”, акцентуючи на відсутності в ній українськомовного розділу. Констатуємо факт, що українська дитяча аудиторія поки що не має якісної електронної енциклопедії і, очевидно, “Vikidia” могла б заповнити цю прогалину. Важливо, щоб українські дитячі енциклопедії чи український сегмент міжнародних проєктів типу “Vikidia” подавали тексти, орієнтовані саме на українську дитину (нині переважна більшість опублікованих в Україні видань такого штибу є перекладними).
